Elon Musk Talks Tesla, SpaceX, and Minerals in Upcoming Audio Interview
Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Saturday sat down for an interview with CleanTechnica‘s Johnna Crider (@JohnnaCrider1) at the company’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The interview was for Crider’s podcast, Getting Stoned, and will be released “soon.”
“Getting Stoned is a podcast about gems, minerals, and fun conversations that may go off-topic,” reads the podcast’s description on Apple Podcasts. “The mission of this podcast is to encourage folks to explore the wonderful world of crystals, gems, minerals, and the various ways they are used in life, technology, and more.”
According to Crider, Musk mostly talked about Tesla and SpaceX over the course of an hour with her. Minerals are critical to the operations of both of Musk’s flagship ventures. So much so, in fact, that Tesla might get into lithium mining and refining if costs continue to soar.
Tesla has also reportedly “agreed” to build a battery and electric vehicle plant in Indonesia. The deal would likely also cover the procurement of nickel, a key mineral used in the production of cathodes for battery cells. Indonesia has the largest nickel reserves in the world.
“The value of goodness should be, obviously, favored over the perception of it,” Musk told Crider during the session. The Getting Stoned host shared a snippet from the audio-only interview in a recent tweet.
Very special episode of Getting Stoned coming out soon.
Thank you @elonmusk for inviting me down to Giga Texas and allowing me to interview you.
It was an honor meeting you.

We’ve seen quite a few Musk interviews this month, with Tesla Owners Silicon Valley releasing a three-part interview with the celebrity billionaire.
Crider didn’t reveal exactly when the Musk episode of her podcast will come out, only that it was recorded on Saturday.
She told Tesla North the interview is currently being edited and may be released around July 1. “Elon Musk is one of the most down to earth and genuine people I’ve ever met,” added Crider.
Getting Stoned is available on both Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
