Tesla was the Most-Discussed EV Automaker on Social Media in Q1: Report

As electric vehicles (EVs) continue to grow in popularity, one data firm is noting how people respond to Tesla on social media, especially with the automaker’s continued success.

Tesla is among a number of automakers garnering the most attention on social media, according to a report from Global Data.

Global Data Social Media Analyst Smitarani Tripathy noted that talk of Tesla on social media increased surrounding successful sales numbers, including the automaker’s recent announcement of record high EV sales and earnings in Q4 2021.

“Tesla was the most discussed automobile company with a 52% share during Q1 2022. The conversations on Tesla spiked the most when it reported record high EV sales in the fourth quarter beating the previous quarter, despite supply chain disruptions,” said Tripathy in a statement to Tesla North.

Other discussed automakers on social media included Toyota, Porsche and Rivian tied in second at 7%, General Motors and Hyundai at 6%, Nissan at 5%, Ford at 4%, while Honda and Mercedes-Benz were at 3% out of the top 10.

Nissan saw a 34% surge in mentions, the biggest change amongst the top 10 companies in Q1, after it was announced a $26 billion investment in electrification was coming with Renault and Mitsubishi.

Tripathy also went on to note that charging stations were heavily discussed by influencers during Q1 2022, as individuals focus on what needs to improve to help spur on higher EV adoption rates.

In addition, Tripathy noted that many countries and state administrations are now looking at how to “bridge the gap of infrastructure development for the electric vehicle charging stations.”
