First Tesla Model Y ‘Standard’ Dual Motor on Display at Cyber Rodeo at Giga Texas
Tesla has launched its factory tour of Giga Texas right now at its Cyber Rodeo grand opening event. Participants are able to see both the first and second floors of Giga Austin.
The tour offers a glimpse of how the Model Y is produced, offering a closer look at rear subframe, battery and subframe marriage, final assembly, intralogistics, paint, framing, casting, body in white, stamping, drive unit, battery assembly and instrument panel manufacturing.
Also on display is a custom-wrapped Model Y, sporting a pink decal that reads ‘Cyber Rodeo’. But what makes this Model Y special is the fact its vehicle information page shows “Standard Dual Motor”, suggesting it’s a new entry version of the Model Y, based on Tesla’s latest 4680 structural battery pack.
According to @Tesla_Raj, who went inside this Tesla made in Austin, the Model Y Standard Dual Motor says it offers about 279 miles of range, based on its current battery charge status. This number matches the range of a Model Y detailed in a recent EPA document.
Tesla’s software code in 2022.8.2 also hinted at a Texas-made Model Y Standard Range Plus, according to developer @greentheonly.
According to @TroyTeslike, he believes this car is indeed new. “Yes, it is new. This is the first Standard Range Model or Y that is also AWD. Additionally, this car has 4680 cells.”
The reason Giga Texas is building a Model Y Standard Range with 4680 cells instead of a Long-Range version is that 4680 cell production is slow and SR has a 68 kWh battery instead of 82 kWh for LR. So, fewer cells are needed which means they can make more cars. pic.twitter.com/LM7NvAXjab

Are you ready for a ‘cheaper’ Tesla Model Y Standard Range to return, but this time in a Dual Motor configuration and with the newest 4680 structural battery pack?
