Apple Maps EV Routing Launches for Ford Mustang Mach-E
With Apple’s release of its iOS 15.4 iPhone software this week, it also introduced electric vehicle map routing within Apple Maps.
The new feature helps EV owners with CarPlay to better route navigation based on their vehicle battery. The first vehicle to support the feature is Ford’s 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E vehicles with updated SYNC software.
“Apple Maps will use your iPhone to read vehicle and battery data when connected to CarPlay and assist you on your journey by adding chargers into your trip as necessary,” says Ford.
The following 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E cars and SYNC software versions will support Apple Maps EV Routing:
- 21281_PRODUCT.244
- 22028_PRODUCT.358
- 22034_PRODUCT.364
Here’s how to check your SYNC software in your Ford Mustang Mach-E:
- Tap the Vehicle image on your vehicle’s SYNC screen.
- Press Settings.
- Touch General.
- Tap About SYNC to see your current software version.
Your iPhone will also require the latest iOS 15.4 update.
Ford says 2021 Mustang Mach-Es with different software versions will get this feature later in 2022–through a Ford Power-Up update. The SYNC system must have a minimum of Ford Power-Up update version 2.3.0, explains the automaker.
As for whether Apple Maps EV Routing will be available for the F-150 Lightning or E-Transit? Ford said it is “working diligently to push new features and software out to customers. We have no estimation at this time for when these customers will get the EV routing feature in Apple Maps.”
