Tesla’s Giga Berlin Aims to Make 1,000 Cars Weekly by April: Report

A series of tweets by Tesla insider Sawyer Merritt (@SawyerMerritt) has apparently revealed a lot of information on the new Giga Berlin factory in Germany

Merritt mentions that he got his information from Troy Teslike (@TroyTeslike), who in the past has been a reputable source on Tesla delivery production and delivery estimates.

The tweets reveal that test production is currently underway at the new factory in Berlin, with 100 units now being produced every day. The aim, he says, is to get to 1,000 units every week by the end of April.

A follow-up tweet reveals that the factory will temporarily stop production for three weeks in Q3 or Q4, 2022, when it switches from the 2170 to 4680 cell battery pack.

He also mentions that Giga Shanghai will initially support Giga Berlin with supply: “Giga Shanghai will supply complete 2170 packs (not just cells) to Giga Berlin until Giga Berlin starts to make its own 4680 cells and packs in a few months. Giga Shanghai has no problem supplying up to 5,000/week packs.”

The tweets also contain information on the current state of Giga Presses, a series of aluminum die casting machinery, which is essential for production.

“Giga Berlin currently has 2 Giga Presses (also known as Giga Casting) up and running, and 2 more are commissioned and are currently being installed. Each casting machine is enough for 2,500/week castings or 1,250/week Model Y because each car will have two castings.

“So, to get to 10,000/week Model Y, they will need 8 Giga Presses in Berlin. Giga Texas is also expected to have 8 Giga Presses for Model Y and some larger Giga Presses for the Cybertruck.”

@SawyerMerritt credits his information to @TroyTeslike, who shares exclusive news like this and more on his Patreon.

Giga Berlin is still awaiting its final approval which is said to take place this week.
