Tesla Insurance Launches in Arizona and Ohio
Tesla Insurance has launched in Arizona and Ohio today, joining California, Illinois and Texas (via @SawyerMerritt).
The electric automaker’s website now reads, “get competitive rates in Arizona, California, Illinois, Ohio and Texas in as little as one minute. Insurance based on real-time driving behavior now available in Arizona, Illinois, Ohio and Texas.”
Tesla Insurance is based on a user’s real-time driving behavior, using the carmaker’s Safety Score system, available on all of its vehicles.
“Unlike other telematics or usage-based insurance products, Tesla does not require an additional device to be installed in your vehicle. Tesla uses specific features within the vehicle to evaluate your premium based on your actual driving. You will make monthly payments based on your driving behavior instead of traditional factors like credit, age, gender, claim history and driving records used by other insurance providers,” explains the company.
As for how premiums are determined? That depends.
“Your premium is determined based on what vehicle you drive, your provided address, how much you drive, what coverage you select and the vehicle’s monthly Safety Score. An average driver could save between 20% to 40% and the safest drivers could save between 30% to 60%,” says Tesla.
Back in late December, @SawyerMerritt said Tesla Insurance was rumoured to launch in January 2022, and that has proved to be true.
