Tesla Model S Plaid Spotted with New Taillights and Charging Flap in Fremont [PICS]
After a Tesla Model S Plaid Refresh with updated taillights was spotted on Tesla’s test track last week, a similar model has been seen driving around Fremont.
A refreshed 2022 Tesla Model S Plaid was seen testing in Fremont, featuring both the updated taillights without the black bar, and with a new charging flap, as posted by Udara Gunawardena in the Facebook group Tesla Model S Plaid & Long Range (via @Sawyer Merritt).
While the black bar crossing the trunks on previous Model S units would continue into the taillight on each side, the new design has the bar stopping in between the taillights.
In addition, the new charging flap is located on the side portion of the taillight, and is a bit like an inverted version of the newer Model Y flaps.
Some users were also wondering if the flap may have CCS charging hardware on the inside, suitable for charging throughout Europe and in other markets.
With the Model S Plaid launched only in June, the company’s quick move to start improving on the design could also have something to do with Tesla’s halting Model S and X unit orders beyond North America.
