Not Just Tesla: All Driver Assist Systems Easily Tricked [VIDEO]

Tesla has made several headlines (good and bad) over the past several months for its advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs), but many aren’t aware that most other car brands have them too.

On Wednesday, Car and Driver arranged cars from every major automaker to test driver assistance systems, and found that a number of other systems work fairly well in addition to Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving.

In particular, the publication emphasized vehicles that helped keep the driver engaged and couldn’t be easily tricked as those that were most safe.

For example, the video also references a recent case in which a Tesla driver was caught riding in the backseat of his car twice, after having tricked the vehicle’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta.

The study included a wide range of brands, including Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, Genesis, Honda, Hyundai, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Subaru, two Teslas (Model 3 and Model S), Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo.

While the publication tested the vehicles on a closed track in Michigan, the ease-of-access to trick the vehicles’ driver monitoring systems speaks for itself in terms of high-levels of real-life danger.

Of the vehicles tested, the only ones that weren’t able to be tricked were the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E450 Cab and the 2020 BMW X7, while none of the vehicles avoided engaging without a driver in some shape or form.
