Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) market is growing, and it just gained one more vehicle, with customers in Canada now able to preorder the latest in Hyundai’s IONIQ line.
Hyundai opened its IONIQ 5 EV preorders for Canada customers this week, according to the company’s website. Initially announced in February at a world premiere event, the IONIQ 5 mid-sized utility vehicle has an expected delivery of Fall 2021 for most variants for Canadian customers, and only requires an initial deposit of $500 CAD.

The IONIQ 5 includes five separate variant packages, four of which are entitled “Preferred,” and one of which is “Essential.” The Preferred packages include a Standard Range, Long Range, All-Wheel Drive Long Range, and an Ultimate All-Wheel-Drive Long Range package.
While all of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 Preferred Packages are estimated for delivery in Fall 2021, the Essential IONIQ 5 variant is estimated instead for Winter 2021.
Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 preorder site also doesn’t include a price for Canada customers, with each variant simply saying “pricing coming soon.” While the EV has already been available in the United Kingdom for a time, the launch edition was priced at £45,000, or about $77,110 CAD ($63,784 USD), so buyers may be able to expect something similar when the price is announced.
