Elon Musk’s Bitcoin Breakup Tweet Has Cryptocurrency Bulls Raging
Just months after Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed he was a supporter of Bitcoin, it appears the billionaire’s relationship with the cryptocurrency may officially be over following a cryptic meme about the digital currency.
On Thursday, Elon Musk tweeted a cryptic, Linkin Park-themed breakup meme, captioned #Bitcoin, with both the Bitcoin and broken heart emojis.
Musk also changed his Twitter profile picture to his character played on the ‘Ooli Show’ from his recent SNL appearance.

Just an hour later, Musk tweeted another cryptic couple meme, this time with no caption whatsoever.

Recent tweets from Musk have caused controversy amongst cryptocurrency communities, between his abrupt shift in support from Bitcoin to Dogecoin, to others claiming he has manipulated the market with his tweets.
However, despite the shift in support, Tesla made $272 million in Bitcoin gains in this year’s first quarter, and not long before ceasing support for the coin entirely. Tesla’s move to stop accepting Bitcoin for cars is also expected to increase its stock volatility, according to reports last month from Wedbush.
In March, a Tesla investor opened a lawsuit against Musk, alleging that his tweets violate an earlier settlement. Earlier this week, the Securities Exchange Council (SEC) also told Musk that his tweets violated court-ordered policies, after a lengthy court settlement in 2018 required him to get approval from Tesla’s lawyers before tweeting.
