GMC Hummer EV Weighs a Whopping 9,000+ Pounds

GMC’s Hummer electric vehicle (EV) SUV/pickup truck hybrid has been getting several updates in recent weeks, and in the most recent, it’s reportedly heavier than its predecessor.

According to Autoblog, the GMC Hummer EV will weigh 9,046 pounds, which is nearly 1,000 pounds heavier than its Hummer H1 predecessor – at least for the EV’s first widely-released variant, the sold-out Launch Edition.

This will also make the GMC electric pickup truck SUV one of the heavier new cars available in the U.S. auto market.

To put this number into context, a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range RWD weighs 3,552 pounds, so the new Hummer EV is about the weight of 2.5 of Elon Musk’s electric sedans.

The all-electric Hummer will also measure 216.8 inches long, 81.1 inches tall, and 86.7 wide. This compares to the H1, which was 185 inches long, 78 inches tall, and 87 inches wide. It’ll also include over 200 kWh of battery capacity with its Ultium battery pack and drivetrain, and 830 horsepower – reportedly as a result of its 20-inch length deficit from the aforementioned H1 gas model.

GMC also announced plans to use Google’s Android Automotive OS earlier this week, along with Google voice assisting and a 13.4-inch central dashboard screen.

One user on Autoblog aired concerns about the Hummer EV’s weight, commenting “I worry about suspension components in a vehicle like this. That’s a lot of weight to dry-steer on one corner. Probably go through a set of tires quite easily as well.
