Canadian Billionaire Creates One-Seat EV, Says It Will Be the Future

After reports that the Apple Car contract may go to Canada’s Magna, the automotive supply company’s founder has announced an interesting new idea for preventing traffic jams: one-seat electric vehicles (EVs).

On Wednesday, Magna founder Frank Stronach shared plans of the SARIT, a three-wheel, single-seat EV that can be used in bike lanes, as reported by CTV News. The billionaire Magna founder is expected to have a price tag of just $5,000 (CAD), and the technology “will be the future,” according to Stronach.

Stronach told the press, “This will change transportation in the world. We call this the micro-mobility and micro-mobility will be the future.”

The Safe Affordable Reliable Innovative Transport (SARIT) will be a safer alternative than a bike, according to Stronach, with added protection from the weather, and a speed that caps off at 32 kilometers per hour (19.88 mph) to match standard bike lane regulations. The vehicle is also estimated to be able to travel 100 kilometers (62 miles) per charge.

Stronach describes the SARIT as a cross between a bicycle and a golf cart, but on three wheels with no emissions. The SARIT also includes a trunk for storage.

While the initial cost of the SARIT is expected to be $5,000 (CAD), Stronach said the vehicle would also become cheaper over time.

Now, who would want to buy one of these? It looks like an enclosed scooter that is already being used by seniors and those with mobility issues.
