Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta to Double with v8.2; Next Version May Go 10x in Size
Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Friday the company plans to expand its Full Self-Driving beta program, starting with the current version 8.2, released earlier this week.
“If you want the Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta downloaded to your car, let us know. Doubling beta program size now with 8.2 & probably 10X size with 8.3. Still be careful, but it’s getting mature,” said Musk.

Musk says version 8.3 would “probably” expand by 10x, but added the company still needs to be careful with its rollout. “It’s getting mature,” said Musk regarding the Autopilot add-on, which costs $10,000 USD.
Back in January, Musk said Tesla had nearly 1,000 FSD beta testers. To double that number, as he stated on Friday, would make it 2,000. To see this number grow 10x in size theoretically with 8.3, would mean 20,000 FSD beta testers, collecting valuable information for Tesla to improve its Autopilot system.
It’s unclear at this point how customers can contact Tesla to join the FSD beta program. Stay tuned as we find out more…
Update: Musk says FSD beta 8.3 “has literally ~1,000 improvements”, adding it “will take time to QA internally before release probably in two or three weeks.”
