Tesla recently updated its online shop to add Model Y 21-inch snow chains, priced at $545 USD. These snow chains are for Model Y customers with 21-inch wheels, such as the Uberturbines.

“The König K-Summit XXL K66 snow chain provides excellent traction and durability in snowy conditions. With no complex attachments, the newly upgraded design simply requires one fixing point on the outer side of the drive wheels. The fitting system has been pre-configured for Model Y 21” wheels,” explains Tesla’s website.

These snow chains include a ratchet system and the tread chain is an “alternation of special injection-molded plastic plates with hard metal studs and special steel chain.” The welded bars offer better grip and performance, while the arms on these snow chains are foldable for easy storage in the included nylon protective back.

The $545 USD price is for a pair of chains that install on your rear wheels.

“The use of non-recommended snow chains has been shown to cause suspension and other vehicle damage. Do not exceed 30 mph (50 kph) when driving with snow chains installed,” warns Tesla.

Now, I don’t know where travellers would be heading with 21-inch wheels and summer tires in the winter, but if you get stuck in a sudden snowstorm, these chains might be the magic ticket to save your bacon.

Snow chains for Tesla Model Y owners with 19 and 20-inch wheels (Gemini and Induction) are available for $235 USD, made available a couple of months ago.

Recently, Tesla also released Model Y paint protection film for the SUV’s rear doors, to protect the paint during inclement weather and conditions.
