Tesla Model Y Hits New Inventory Online in the United States

Up until now, Tesla has produced the Model Y to order. Once you place your order for a Model Y, it goes into production and is delivered to you in 4-8 weeks. However, on Friday, Twitter user @klwtts spotted the very first Model Y Performance units being sold out of inventory on the Tesla website.

The cheapest of the two units found costs $58,550 USD as seen yesterday, so buying out of inventory could potentially save you up to $2,000 USD.

Seeing as both units have a few miles on their odometers but are still listed as “New”, @klwtts speculated they could be demo models tested out at sales centers by prospective buyers, and that seems to be the consensus among Tesla enthusiasts on Twitter.

The listings also reveal that the Model Y Performance gets its range bumped up from 291 miles (468 km) to 315 miles (507 km) — an 8.25% increase — if the 21″ Überturbine wheels are switched out for 19″ Gemini wheels. This comes on top of an earlier increase in range, and is presumably because the Überturbines are heavier and wider in the rear.

Three such units were found being available for sale in the San Francisco Bay Area, 3 in Seattle, and another 2 in Denver. As of writing for the 90210 ZIP code, one 2020 Model Y Long Range AWD is available. Your mileage may vary as to whether there will be Model Y inventory in your area.

While fresh-off-the-production-line units will still have to be pre-ordered, it seems that Tesla is parting ways with its current stock of demo Model Y units. And don’t forget: the $2,000 USD you save buying a Model Y out of inventory could get you the Acceleration Boost upgrade!
