Tesla Model S Price Dropping to $69,420 Tonight Says Elon Musk
After dropping the price of the Tesla Model S on Monday down $3,000 USD, CEO Elon Musk says the price is dropping again, as of tonight.
“The gauntlet has been thrown down! The prophecy will be fulfilled. Model S price changes to $69,420 tonight!”, said Musk on Wednesday afternoon.

Model S price changes to $69,420 tonight!

The symbolic price of $69,420 sees the latter part of the price tag play into the ‘420’ part of marijuana culture. Musk has smoked a blunt with Joe Rogan before for the world to see. Tesla’s Model S does not qualify for federal tax credits and this lower price will undercut the base Lucid Air.
The price drop seemingly is in response to today’s Lucid Air base model price reveal, set to $69,900 USD after U.S. federal tax credits. The base Lucid Air also has a slightly higher range at 406 miles compared to 402 miles for the entry Model S. It’s worth noting the Lucid Air has not entered production yet, nor has a vehicle been delivered, yet.
