Denmark Looking to Boost EV Sales and Reduce Emissions by 70%

Denmark is certainly ahead of the curve when it comes to environmental protection practices, but it’s still lagging when it comes to making Teslas and other electric vehicles (EVs) affordable to the public.

According to Bloomberg, a new panel in Denmark is preparing a plan to help Danish buyers purchase more EVs. While a Tesla Model 3 LR currently costs about $100,000 USD in Denmark, parliament is looking for solutions to help make EVs more affordable for its constituents.

As one example of its many environmental efforts, lawmakers in Denmark recently passed a deal to reduce carbon emissions by 70% by 2030. It should come as no surprise, then, that the country would want to encourage its citizens towards the zero-emission EVs that are coming out right now.

New road and emissions taxes are likely to roll out from the Danish government in the coming years, along with other initiatives enticing people to buy electric.

The 70% cut is ambitious, especially given that the EU is shooting for a 40% decrease in emissions within the same time period.

Still, EVs currently make up under 1% of Denmark’s registered vehicles, signaling the need for a swift change if the country is to meet its goals. Other countries with similar initiatives, like Canada, have seen major increases in EVs on the road over the past few years.

While Denmark certainly has its work cut out for them if it wants to achieve its goals, it’s on track to make them happen, and hopefully other countries will follow suit.
