Lucid Air Beats Tesla Model S in 1/4 Mile Drag Race at Sonoma Raceway [VIDEO]
Up until this point, Tesla has been on top of the electric vehicle (EV) game and the racing game. But it looks like a new fastest EV may be just around the corner.
In a video released Wednesday, Lucid Motors previews its Lucid Air at Sonoma Raceway in August, showing a run in which the electric sedan lands a 9.9 second quarter-mile time, making it the quickest production sedan that we know of coming to the market.
In the video, the Lucid Air puts a rivaling Tesla Model S to shame, beating it by at least a car-length to its 9.9 second record time. The sedan is also set to be announced on September 9th, so it was an especially fitting record-breaking time.
On its website, Lucid Motors claims the Lucid Air will have over 400 miles of charge time, which is even more than the long-range Tesla Model 3, which is supposed to allow for 322 miles per single charge.
The announcement of the Lucid Air, the first car from Lucid, will come less than two weeks before Tesla’s Battery Day, at which Tesla and Elon Musk are expected to make revolutionary announcements about the car’s battery.
When the Lucid Air does arrive, it’s sure to put a little competition in the way of EV giant Tesla, and it’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for both of these all-electric vehicle manufacturers.
