Lucid Air: 517 Mile Range From 113 kWh Battery Pack, Will Have “Largest Frunk Ever”
Lucid Motors today has shared more information about its upcoming Lucid Air sedan, which is gunning to compete with the Tesla Model S.
The Lucid Air won’t ship until early 2021, but according to Lucid Motors today, the car will have “class-leading interior space, a sculpted 113kWh battery pack, and the largest frunk ever offered in an electric car.”
For the battery pack of 113 kWh to achieve 517 miles (832 km), that appears to be more efficient than the Tesla Model S.
“It’s relatively easy to achieve more range by adding progressively more batteries but gaining ‘dumb range’ that way increases weight and cost, and reduces interior space,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO, Lucid Motors, in a company blog post. “Lucid Air has achieved its remarkable range whilst also reducing battery size through its in-house technology, resulting in a breakthrough in overall vehicle-level efficiency.”
The Lucid Air frunk is “the largest frunk ever offered in a production EV”, explains the company, with over 280 liters (9.9 cubic feet), which it says is “89 percent larger than the current leader in its vehicle class and 40 percent larger than the current EV leader in the SUV class.”
Along with the trunk, Lucid Air will have 739 liters (26.1 cubic feet) of cargo capacity, which the company says is “best in class for both electric and internal combustion engine vehicles by some margin.”
Lucid also previously noted its Lucid Air will be the fastest charging electric vehicle as well, capable of 20 miles per minute. More details about the Lucid Air specs, pricing and configurations will become available on September 9, 2020.
