Elon Musk Helps Launch ‘Astra Nova’ Online School

The coronavirus has forced the world to rethink the way that our children are educated, and many experts believe that online learning is the future of the education sector. According to an investigation by The Daily Beast, the billionaire CEO is involved in a new school that is slated to launch (virtually) in September. The school is called the Astra Nova School.

The school describes itself as “experimental” and claims that the curriculum is “reimagined” every year. This isn’t the first time that Musk has gotten involved in schools, as he was previously involved in Ad Astra. The Astra Nova school website states that the school is run by the same “teacher-administrators who created Ad Astra.”

The school claims that kids aged 8-14 can apply, and the application process seems to simply involve responding to a 2-minute video. The school is extremely expensive, and it would cost $7,500 to enroll your child in a week of online lessons. The principal of the school, Joshua Dahn, acknowledged that Musk provided an initial donation, but downplayed his involvement.

Dahn stated that Musk has “no kids at the school” and “no financial interest” in the school. Critics suggest that Musk missed a golden opportunity to make education more accessible for families that cannot afford a traditional education.
