Tesla Model Y Tow Package Hits Online Store for $1,200 USD

The Tesla Model Y has seen some upgrades and additions roll out since its initial release in March of 2020. The vehicle operates as a daily driver and a family sport utility vehicle for many drivers, separating it from Tesla’s sportier rides. As a result, many drivers were disappointed to see that the initial launch of the vehicle didn’t include a towing option.

Since then, Tesla made a tow hitch available for the Model Y in April following customer requests. Now, a few months later, Tesla has released a towing package for the Model Y on their website for purchase, after the fact.

As the website description states, “Equip your Model Y with a high-strength steel tow bar and 2” hitch receiver capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds on 19” and 21” wheels or up to 2,300 pounds on 20” wheels. Tow Mode actively monitors trailer sway and adjusts wheel braking and speed.”

Drivers who are looking to have the tow hitch factory installed can opt to pay $1,000 USD for the option. For those looking to add the tow package after vehicle delivery, they can expect to pay $1,200 USD for the upgrade (or $1,650 in Canada!). The website price includes shipping to your nearest service center and installation. With high demand for the towing option, Model Y drivers now have even greater flexibility with the first electric SUV from Tesla.
