U.S. Investigates Tesla Model S Touchscreen Failures

Tesla experienced some problems with a batch of Model S vehicles this week. While the Model S has been out of the spotlight for the company as of late, a new report shows some concerning issues with some touchscreens. As a result, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into the issue.

As Reuters reports on the touchscreen issues today, “The auto safety agency said the preliminary evaluation, covering 2012-2015 model year vehicles, comes after it received 11 complaints alleging premature failure of the media-control unit due to memory wear-out.”

Because Tesla’s electric vehicles (including the Model S) rely so heavily on their touchscreen functions to maintain safe driving, the problem prompted immediate attention from U.S. officials. The investigation from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration aims to keep drivers safe out on the roads. The entity also looks to keep an eye on production issues that led to such a drastic problem.

Complaints from drivers covered a range of issues. Some complaints mentioned the inability to clear out fogged out windows, leading to a loss of visibility. Another Model S driver said that the touchscreen failure led to complications with the vehicle’s Autopilot system. With the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration working on the issue, drivers expect answers in the coming days or weeks.
