With the innovation and success put into motion by Tesla in the world of electric and autonomous vehicles, traditional automakers are taking notice. Namely, the major automobile manufacturer Ford has announced its plans to keep pace with modern vehicle software interfaces. Features found on Tesla’s touchscreen software and Autopilot functions led to enormous shifts in consumer attention and transportation. But does Ford have what it takes to enter this segment of the marketplace?
As a new report from CNBC shows, “The company’s new “Active Drive Assist” will be part of the automaker’s “Co-Pilot360″ safety and convenience technologies. The hardware for the hands-free driving system will be available to order first on the Mach-E later this year, followed by other “select” vehicles for the 2021 model year, Ford announced Thursday.”
Ford made headway in modern transportation with the all-electric Mustang Mach-E crossover. As demonstrated in Tesla’s vehicles, electric vehicles allow for high speed launches. This attention to speed makes the electric Mustang appealing to a segment of Ford loyalists.
The new Active Drive Assist mode from Ford controls key aspects of the driver’s experience. When enabled, the mode assists with braking, steering, and parking, similar to Tesla Autopilot functions. For now, the system will be available in Ford’s electric Mustang vehicles.
