Tesla Model Y Sets Fastest SUV Lap Record at Buttonwillow Raceway [VIDEO]
A new video from Unplugged Performance has shared an upgraded Tesla Model Y setting a new fastest SUV lap record at Buttonwillow Raceway in California.
The new Model Y had prototype Unplugged Performance coilovers and sway bars, along with existing offerings from the company such as its rear adjustable camber arms, a six-piston carbon ceramic big brake kit, rear brake pads, and forged UP-03 19×10.5 race spec wheels with 305/30ZR19 Nitto NT01 tires.
According to driver Joshua Allan, his lap time of 2:01.9 resulted in a faster lap time than a Chevy Corvette Grand Sport and Porsche 911 Turbo (997) and within half a second of a Porsche 911 GT3 (997) track tuned car—definitely impressive for a family SUV!
Allan said he really likes car mid-corner loaded up, noting there was good balance front and rear, acknowledging despite feeling the weight and height of the Model Y, he was still “fairly planted”.

The lap record by an SUV took place on June 12, 2020. The fastest Tesla lap record at Buttonwillow is held by a Tesla Model 3 (also with tuning parts from Unplugged Performance), which was also driven by Allan.
