Tesla Model 3 Claims Second Month as U.K.’s Best Selling Car
Tesla’s international footprint continues to spread. As the company recently unveiled plans to create more Supercharger stations in China, they also continue to develop a new factory in Berlin, Germany. Alongside these international developments, the U.K. shows some interesting statistics about the sales performance of the Tesla Model 3.
A new piece from Market Watch shows that the Tesla Model 3 remained the best-selling car in the United Kingdom for the second month in a row. Following the bulk of the coronavirus both in North America and elsewhere, the Model 3 continued to have success throughout April and May. Even though data shows that U.K. residents bought fewer cars in these months (likely due to uncertain economic conditions) the Model 3 remained their top choice.
The United Kingdom, along with many other nations, expects car sales to rise as the coronavirus lockdown measures loosen up. Even so, there’s a few potential reasons for the Model 3’s success during such a trying time. As Market Watch states, “Tesla’s relatively strong performance is partly down to its online sales model, which means it is less reliant than rivals on physical dealerships. Most showrooms have been closed since March because of the coronavirus lockdown. The Model 3 also fared relatively well because of attractive tax benefits for electric vehicles, according to Jefferies analyst Philippe Houchois.”
