Tesla Model Y Heat Pump vs Model S in Snow Melting Challenge [VIDEO]
The Tesla Model Y brings many new features to electric vehicles. Perhaps one of the most notable changes made in the new vehicle is the inclusion of the heat pump. But just how efficient is the Tesla Model Y heat pump when compared to the Tesla Model S? A new video posted by DÆrik answers the question “is the Model Y heat pump more efficient?”
The video begins with both vehicles preconditioned through the Tesla app. Covered in layers of snow, viewers can instantly hear the noise of the Model Y as the heat pump does its work. The Model S is nearly silent, as the vehicle has no heat pump.
Within the first five minutes of preconditioning, snow begins to fall off of the Model Y. The Model S remains covered. Fifteen minutes in, and the comparison remains, suggesting the improved efficiency of the Model Y heat pump.
After clearing all the snow off of both vehicles manually, one clear difference demonstrates the disparity between the Model Y heat pump and the Model S. On the hood of the Model S, a thick layer of ice remains affixed to the vehicle. Meanwhile, the Model Y has no ice present. The video continues to display the difference in the heat pump by examining the battery use and overall performance of preconditioning in a cold climate.
