Extended Bay Area Health Orders May Hamper Tesla Factory Reopen

As covered yesterday, Tesla Inc. looked on course to resume production at its Bay Area facility. However, as the world has seen, things change fast with the current global pandemic. Due to the likelihood of extended health orders put into place in the Bay Area, it appears as though Tesla Inc. will be forced to reconsider its return to production.
The initial shelter in place orders enacted to prevent the spread of coronavirus were set to expire May 3rd. This initial date led to Tesla releasing a statement informing some staff to return to work on April 29th. But now Bay Area government officials plan to release updated orders for the county later this week. As the original health orders were put into place with tentative timelines, it’s likely they will be extended. Because much of Tesla’s production is considered nonessential, it’s doubtful the electric vehicle manufacturer will be cleared to return to work.
Rather than having some employees return to work on April 29th, Tesla now plans to send them back on May 4th. Of course, all of this depends on the new health orders issued by local officials. As it stands now, the company maintains its basic production tasks with limited staff.
