1000 Mile Road Trip in a Tesla Model Y – How Efficient Is It? [VIDEO]
There’s been no shortage of coverage on the latest electric vehicle offering from Tesla Inc. As a family-centered sport utility vehicle, the Tesla Model Y has a lot to offer. Whether drivers are looking for ample storage space or unique design features, the Model Y delivers. But just how efficient is the vehicle when taken out on longer road trips? More specifically, how does the Tesla Model Y hold up over a 1000 mile road trip? A new video from i1Tesla puts the new electric SUV to the test with a road trip demonstration.
One interesting detail to note from the start is the fact that the first part of the road trip is performed with heavier factory-made 21-inch tires. On the return trip, lighter 21-inch wheels and tires make it easier to measure the difference.
Over the course of the 1000 mile road trip, the Model Y only required three stops at Supercharger stations to charge up. This is certainly a positive realization for anyone concerned about having to make lots of stops on a road trip. Using consistent speed over the course of the trip in the video, it’s important to recognize the role that elevation plays in the vehicle’s efficiency. While mountain roads don’t take too much of a strain on the vehicle, they do produce a noticeable difference in watt-hour per mile.
