The Tesla Model Y Tow Hitch Has Arrived
When the Tesla Model Y launched in March 2020, drivers were impressed with the electric vehicle. The sleek design features and impressive performance stats made for a successful release from Tesla. However, some drivers were perturbed by one missing component: a tow hitch. But the good news continues for Model Y owners as Tesla has now released a tow hitch option for their latest electric vehicle.
Buyers who reach the exterior customization stage while building their Model Y on Tesla’s website will notice the new option. Adding a tow hitch to the vehicle will cost an extra $1000 USD or $1300 CAD. According to Tesla’s website, the tow hitch has a towing capability of up to 3,500 lbs. or 1587 kg. These numbers are quite impressive given the overall size and build of the Tesla Model Y.
Furthermore, the description of the new Model Y tow hitch illuminates some of the materials. The tow hitch uses a “High strength, Class II steel tow bar.” The addition of the tow hitch helps the Model Y compete with other electric sport utility vehicles available on today’s market. Furthermore, the added towing capacity even provides more of an incentive for traditional SUV drivers to switch to electric. As we’ve already seen, it appeared that Tesla’s new SUV had an impact on the U.S. release of the BMW ix3.
