Video Shows Handsfree Tailgate Control of Tesla Model Y
Drivers of the new Tesla Model Y have been wondering how to open the trunk of their electric vehicle without using their hands. While the feature wasn’t built into the stock version of the Model Y (or any other Tesla vehicle, for that matter) a new video shows a workaround. While some people may have already seen some evidence of voice-controlled Tesla trunks, a new video from Ryan Wallace shows all the details.
As the video explains, handsfree control relies on the usage of a third-party app. The StatsApp for Tesla allows drivers set up voice commands in conjunction with Apple’s Siri. In addition to allowing for custom actions such as hands-free operation, the app also gives drivers some detailed insights into the nuts of bolts of their vehicle usage. Everything from battery efficiency to average estimated range presents in one simple, easy to use interface.
The app also allows drivers to set limits, unlock doors, and much more. To set voice commands for opening and closing the trunk, navigate to the gear icon. Scroll to Siri shortcuts. From there, select ‘open the trunk’ or ‘close the trunk’. You can then input your voice commands and add them to Siri. Third-party apps such as Stats help drivers of all kinds configure their Tesla to their liking.
