Tesla Model Y Teardown Reveals Rear Castings, Trunk, and Towing [VIDEO]
More in depth information on the Tesla Model Y surfaced with a new video from Munro Live. This time viewers get a look into some lesser known aspects of the new electric vehicle from Tesla. In this video breakdown of the Tesla Model Y, Munro Live gives a walk through of the vehicle’s rear mega castings, trunk tub, and a possible towing location.
To start things off, there’s a new issue with the noise of the heat pump in the Model Y. As seen in a past video, the Model 3 eAC unit came with an insulating cover to reduce noise. After speaking with Tesla, it appears that the casings will soon be applied to the heat pump on the Model Y.
The rear mega casting on the Model Y shows Tesla used three different pieces to complete the cast. Brackets for seats save both time and efficiency, as the video points out. Further brackets cast in place save Tesla engineers from unnecessary welding throughout the construction process. The trunk tub or “bucket” on the Model Y flows with the design of the casting. An added protective layer makes an easy fit in the bottom of the trunk tub.
Finally, the video ends by discussing a possible tow location. An analysis of the bumper shows a potential location for a trailer hitch. As shown in a past video, there is currently no trailer hitch on the bumper of the Model Y.
