Starbase Unveils Police Cybertrucks After Bidding for 10 More

City of Starbase/X
The City of Starbase has put black-and-white police Cybertrucks on display as it builds its first municipal police department, following other Texas agencies that have weighed Cybertruck patrol fleets of their own.
In an October 29 post on X, the city account introduced the Starbase Police Department’s Cybertrucks under Chief Glenn Bennett, saying the trucks will be part of the fleet serving residents, workers, and visitors as the brand-new department comes together piece by piece.
Starbase is the incorporated Texas municipality around SpaceX’s Starship launch site near Boca Chica. The city photo shows unit 001 with a roof light bar and Starbase Police markings, parked with Starship hardware rising behind the fence.
City procurement records go further than the social post. Starbase’s own RFP 26-03, posted on the city website, seeks ten fully upfitted Tesla Cybertruck patrol vehicles, with options to buy up to 20 more patrol trucks and up to 10 fire department vehicles on the same platform. The RFP also notes the city already runs two police Cybertrucks and wants the new ones compatible with that existing pair.
Las Vegas Metro put 10 donated Cybertruck patrol units on the street in 2025, and agencies keep watching the operating math. A UP.FIT analysis covered in our story on how Tesla police EVs can cut fuel and maintenance costs put a Cybertruck patrol unit far below a gas interceptor over 100,000 miles, largely because the truck can run lights and radios off the battery while parked.
Would you want your local department to follow Starbase’s lead on Cybertruck patrols?
