Tesla Opens First East Coast Semi Megacharger in Conley, Georgia

Tesla Semi Megacharger station in Conley, Georgia

Tesla has switched on a new Semi Megacharger station in Conley, Georgia, giving its Class 8 electric truck its first dedicated charging site on the East Coast.

The 8-stall station was announced Wednesday by Tesla Charging, which shared a photo of the new site. Megachargers are the high-power chargers built specifically for the Semi rather than Tesla’s passenger cars, and the network has been concentrated in the western United States until now.

Wednesday’s announcement lands as Tesla ramps up its Semi business. The company began high-volume production at its dedicated Semi factory in Sparks, Nevada in September, opening a plant sized for 50,000 trucks a year. Weeks earlier, ZET SCALE named Tesla the primary truck maker for a 2,500-truck order, the largest electric Class 8 fleet deal in the United States, with deployments planned across 10 freight hubs including Atlanta.

Conley sits just southeast of Atlanta, placing the new Megacharger near one of those planned freight hubs and along a major Southeast freight corridor. Tesla first showed off Megacharger hardware at Gigafactory Nevada in 2021, and the network has grown slowly since as Semi deliveries ramp.

Fleet operators will be watching how quickly Tesla fills in the charging map between its western Megacharger sites and the new East Coast foothold. The Conley station is the first step in that direction.
