SpaceX Targets Wednesday Undocking for Crew-12 Dragon From ISS

SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule in orbit

SpaceX’s Crew-12 Dragon is set to undock from the International Space Station on Wednesday, October 7, bringing NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev back to Earth after nearly eight months in orbit.

According to SpaceX’s Crew-12 mission page, Dragon is targeted to undock autonomously at 8:00 a.m. ET. After a few departure burns to get clear of the station, the spacecraft will lower its orbit in stages, ditch its trunk and head back through the atmosphere, with splashdown off the California coast expected roughly 27 and a half hours later on Thursday, October 8.

If you want to watch, SpaceX will stream the undocking on its website and on X starting about 15 minutes before departure, then pick coverage back up an hour ahead of splashdown.

The crew launched on a Falcon 9 from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on Friday, February 13, and docked with the ISS the next day.

The return lands in the middle of a busy stretch for SpaceX, which scrubbed a Falcon 9 launch for the Space Development Agency moments before liftoff on Monday and flew a Falcon Heavy on the classified NROL-97 mission last week. The company also recently laid out its Star Mind program, which covers orbital AI computing spacecraft carrying more than 250kW of solar power.
