Starlink Turns an Empty Exit Row Into a Five-Game Football Lounge

Elon Musk is putting Starlink’s in-flight Wi-Fi on display after a passenger turned an empty exit row into a personal sports bar, streaming five live football games at once on a commercial flight.

Five screens streaming live football games on an airplane exit row using Starlink in-flight Wi-Fi

The moment started with sports announcer Chase Snyder, who posted the photo on Saturday, October 3, writing: “I’m very excited to announce that I pulled off an entire exit row to myself and have built the quintuplet box thanks to the beautiful invention of Starlink.” The image shows three seatback screens, a laptop, and a tablet lined up across the empty row, all tuned to live games. The post quickly went viral, passing 1.2 million views.

Musk quote-tweeted the setup on Sunday, October 4, writing: “5 live football games streamed simultaneously on a commercial flight with @Starlink.” The post took off, amassing 2.6 million views within hours.

The clip Musk shared was posted by DogeDesigner on X, who noted that United now has Starlink on more than 500 planes. United has been leaning into its connectivity pitch lately, recently tying its latest status match offer to its Starlink rollout.

Musk has been vocal about Starlink’s aviation edge. He recently warned that Delta “will lose a lot of customers” without Starlink, while carriers across the Atlantic are catching on: SWISS just put its first Starlink-equipped aircraft into service at Zurich. And travelers who want Starlink on the ground can grab one too, as the Starlink Mini dish recently dropped to $149.

Snyder, for his part, followed up by asking Musk for a Tesla perk of his own, replying: “Can you get me a driverless car so I can do this in the car @elonmusk.”

It gets better. Snyder had company on that flight. Fellow sports broadcaster Alex Del Barrio (@alexdelbarrio), who covers games for CBS Sports and ESPN Radio, was sitting just a few rows ahead and spotted Snyder’s post mid-flight. Del Barrio replied with a photo of his own United seatback screen, writing simply: “Hi from 12f!”

Snyder answered with a photo of his hand pointing down the airplane aisle toward Del Barrio’s row, making it official that the two were sharing the same flight. The bit did not stop there. Snyder posted a “Choose your fighter” meme, pairing his five-screen exit-row setup side by side with a photo of a home living-room TV tuned to a game, and asked followers to pick their fighter. Del Barrio delivered the verdict: “You’re a sociopath.” Snyder’s reply summed up the flight: “Having the best flight of my life.” Two broadcasters trading posts on X from the same airplane, in real time, turned an already viral moment into a comedy the whole timeline got to watch unfold.

Moments like this are the kind of real-world proof SpaceX can point to as it wires up more cabins. If the mid-flight exchange between Snyder and Del Barrio is any indication, the viral fun will only grow as more planes come online. If airlines keep signing on, the empty exit row turned personal stadium may not stay a novelty for long, and Starlink’s pitch as the Wi-Fi that keeps up with football Sunday will only get louder.
