Starlink Cuts Residential Prices 50% for Texas Neighbors Near Starbase

Starlink is slashing Residential plan prices in half for people living in Texas’s Cameron County area near SpaceX’s Starbase headquarters, and the discount kicks in automatically for eligible addresses with no upfront hardware cost for new customers.

Starlink announced the offer on October 5. It covers standard Residential service plans, and eligibility comes down to whether your service address falls inside a qualifying zone in the Rio Grande Valley. As long as your address stays in that area, the discount sticks around, although Starlink says it can stop offering the deal to new customers at any time. Anyone already getting the lower price will receive at least six months of notice before anything changes, and there’s no end date announced so far.

Starlink pitched the price cut as a thank you to its neighbors, pointing out that Starbase is home to SpaceX’s headquarters and that thousands of SpaceX employees and their families live in the Rio Grande Valley. The company has been putting its service in some unusual spots lately, from turning an empty exit row into a five-game football lounge to Elon Musk’s warning that Delta will lose customers without satellite Wi-Fi, but this Cameron County deal is its most aggressive residential price cut yet.

It’s also the latest in a string of aggressive Starlink promos. Earlier this year, a secret $50 credit effectively gave customers a free month of service, and SpaceX brought free dish rentals to Canada for subscribers who wanted to test the hardware before buying it.

The big question now is whether SpaceX rolls out similar neighbor discounts in other communities around its facilities, and how long the Cameron County offer stays open to new signups. For now, anyone inside the zone gets half-price internet backed by a six-month notice guarantee, so if you live in the Valley and have been thinking about switching, Starlink is an easy call.
