Elon Musk said on September 9, 2026, that very few people understand how thoroughly Tesla’s Cybercab is optimized for the lowest possible fully loaded cost per mile, answering a thread that laid out the two-seater’s efficiency-focused specs as public rides continue in Austin.
“The degree to which Cybercab is optimized for lowest possible cost per mile (fully loaded) is understood by very few,” Musk wrote. Specs circulating with that exchange put the production Cybercab at a 47.6 kWh battery, more than 6.1 miles per kWh, a 3,113-pound curb weight, front-wheel drive, an estimated 293 miles of range, 20.2 cubic feet of rear cargo, a 163 kW (219 hp) motor, 16.3-inch step-in height, 5.7 inches of ground clearance, and 43.4 inches of legroom in a body just 69 inches wide, narrower than the original Roadster.
Those numbers are the hardware side of the same cost-per-mile pitch Tesla has been making for unsupervised rides: a small, light two-seater with no steering wheel or pedals, built to run cheap miles rather than match a Model Y’s family packaging. Musk did not attach a dollar figure to the cost-per-mile claim in the reply, so the takeaway is his emphasis that the optimization is deeper than most observers assume, not a new published cents-per-mile scoreboard.
That lands beside other September Cybercab notes on the site, including Unboxed manufacturing that halves factory line size and tens of thousands of partnership webform submissions, as Tesla keeps arguing the vehicle is a fleet economics machine first.
