Elon Musk Says Starlink Targets $1 Trillion Annual Revenue by 2030

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk claims Starlink could eventually generate over $1 trillion in annual revenue by 2030 as next-generation satellites boost network capacity and artificial intelligence drives up global data demand.
In a series of posts on X, Musk outlined internal projections for the satellite internet service, pointing to major hardware upgrades powered by SpaceX’s Starship rocket.
Musk explained that the upcoming V3 satellites will deliver a substantial performance leap over current orbiters. “What is not speculative is that the V3 satellites that will be launched on Starship are an order of magnitude more capable than the V2 satellites currently launched on Falcon,” Musk wrote.
He noted that the upgraded system will offer more than 100 times the bandwidth of the Starlink V2 system, which is on track to hit $20 billion in annual recurring revenue this year. Even if pricing per gigabit falls dramatically, Musk expects SpaceX communications revenue to top $200 billion annually.
Much of that extra capacity is aimed at handling data traffic from automated systems. “As I’ve said publicly, bandwidth demand will increase massively due to AI & robotics. Their need for data transfer is orders of magnitude more than humans!” Musk posted.
If Starlink captures 25 percent of the global communications market outside China, annual revenue would surpass $500 billion. Over the long term, Musk envisions an even larger footprint. “It’s not out of the question that Starlink carries more than 50% of Internet traffic long-term, which would probably be over a trillion/year. There is no obvious impediment to that outcome so far,” he said.
Musk clarified that the target represents a single-year milestone rather than cumulative earnings. “No, I meant actual revenue in the year 2030 itself, not cumulative, which would be a higher number,” Musk stated, adding a note of caution about the ambitious timeline. “Of course, it’s always possible that we flounder along the way or are delusional, but those are our actual internal projections.”
ARK Invest chief Cathie Wood responded to the projections, noting that the bandwidth leap exceeded industry expectations. “We thought the increase in satellite bandwidth from V2 to V3 was 20X. 100X is astonishing,” Wood posted.
