SpaceX, Nvidia Partner to Bring Rubin GPUs to Starmind AI Satellites

SpaceX has announced a strategic partnership with Nvidia to equip its planned Starmind AI1 satellite constellation with data centre class hardware, bringing advanced AI processing capabilities directly into orbit.

Revealed during SpaceX’s first-ever earnings today, the collaboration will see each Starmind satellite powered by Nvidia’s Rubin GPUs and Vera CPUs.

While SpaceX previously outlined its plans to build orbital AI data centres, the integration of Nvidia’s next-generation processors marks a major step forward for the compute payload design. The Starmind constellation aims to bypass growing ground-based bottlenecks, including power grid limitations, land constraints, and massive cooling requirements, by taking processing infrastructure into space.

Operating in low-latency, sun-synchronous orbit, each satellite will capture continuous solar energy using a 210 kW solar array operating at a power density of 250 watts per square metre. The hardware benefits from space-based cooling, radiating heat directly into the vacuum of space without relying on power-hungry water chillers or terrestrial cooling systems.

SpaceX is preparing for high-volume manufacturing of the constellation at its new Gigasat Factory in Bastrop, Texas. Mass production and deployment are targeted to begin as early as late 2027, with the heavy hardware slated for launch aboard Starship. Processed data will be transmitted back to Earth via high-speed laser connections tied into the Starlink satellite network.
