Tesla Extends Cybertruck Warranty After PCS Part Failures

Tesla has officially acknowledged ongoing issues with the Power Conversion System in earlier Cybertruck models, rolling out extended warranties alongside free Supercharging for affected drivers.

According to an update shared by the official Cybertruck account on X, the automaker pinpointed components that failed to meet internal standards. “We’ve identified PCS electronics in pre-2026 Cybertrucks that do not meet our reliability standards and have made design changes to address this in newer vehicles,” the company stated.

To address the flaw, Tesla is extending coverage for existing owners based on the model year of their vehicle. For 2024 and 2025 Cybertrucks, the PCS warranty now lasts for 8 years or 150,000 miles. For 2026 models, the component comes with a standard warranty of 7 years or 70,000 miles.

Owners who already paid out of pocket to replace a broken PCS unit will receive full reimbursements starting in the coming weeks.

While suppliers ramp up production of the redesigned part, Tesla released a software patch that allows vehicles with a faulty PCS to continue using Superchargers. To help ease the headache for owners waiting on backordered parts, the company is also providing free Supercharging until repairs are completed.

Having covered Tesla service hiccups for years, seeing a proactive fix like free Supercharging is a welcome relief for owners who were stranded without home charging options. Tesla says it is working as quickly as possible to increase supply chain availability for the updated component.

Now this is doing the right thing. Good job, Tesla.
