Only Two EVs Made This Year’s Top 10 American-Made List. Both Are Teslas.
The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y have secured the top two positions on the annual Cars.com American-Made Index for 2026. This milestone marks the sixth consecutive year that Tesla has claimed the crown for manufacturing the most domestically produced vehicles on the market.
Cars.com evaluates vehicles using five main criteria, including the final assembly location, the percentage of domestic parts, and the size of the automaker’s US manufacturing workforce. The Model 3, built in Fremont, California, took the number one spot, while the Model Y, which splits production between California and Austin, Texas, followed closely in second place.
The two Tesla models were the only pure electric vehicles to make the top 10 list this year. Other historic domestic brands trailed behind the Texas automaker, with the Jeep Gladiator and Jeep Grand Cherokee taking third and fourth place respectively.
Tesla’s high ranking is driven heavily by supply chain math, as the company relies on a high volume of local components for its electric motors and battery packs rather than importing major systems from overseas.
