The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released its latest vehicle safety ratings, and Tesla’s Cybertruck has taken the top spot in the pickup category. The fully electric truck is the only pickup model to achieve the prestigious Top Safety Pick+ award under the updated safety standards.

During the evaluation, the electric vehicle successfully completed the pedestrian front crash prevention tests. The vehicle managed to avoid collisions across all tested scenarios, which included daytime and nighttime trials from multiple angles.

Tesla highlighted the wins, saying, “In IIHS pedestrian front crash prevention tests, @Cybertruck avoided every single collision – daytime, nighttime & different angles. It was also the only pickup to earn Top Safety Pick+ (highest award) in 2026.”

To secure the highest safety rating, vehicles had to meet much tougher criteria than in previous years, especially regarding rear passenger protection and crash avoidance technology. While the Toyota Tundra secured a lower tier Top Safety Pick rating, the Cybertruck stood completely alone at the summit of the large pickup segment.

The truck achieved top marks for its structural integrity during crash simulations, demonstrating a high level of safety for occupants inside. Key design choices helped minimize cabin damage during impact tests, ensuring that the heavy truck still manages to prioritize physical security.
