EL AL Partners with SpaceX to Bring Starlink Satellite Internet to Flights
Israeli carrier EL AL Airlines is bringing Starlink to its fleet, signing an official agreement with SpaceX to offer satellite internet across its aircraft.
The airline announced the deal on Monday, promising passengers high-speed, stable connectivity in the air that it says will feel like a standard home internet experience. The rollout won’t happen overnight though — EL AL confirmed the installation will begin gradually across its fleet starting in 2027.
The bigger question frequent flyers are already asking is whether the service will be free or come with an added fee. Several major airlines including United, Air France, and Hawaiian Airlines have committed to offering Starlink to passengers at no extra charge. EL AL hasn’t said which way it’s going yet.
EL AL joins a growing list of international carriers ditching traditional in-flight Wi-Fi in favour of SpaceX’s low-Earth orbit satellite network, which offers significantly better speeds and reliability than older systems. SpaceX said over 40 airlines and counting have switched over to Starlink internet.
