Tesla Secures Self-Driving Expansion in Denmark as European Sales Surge
Danish drivers will soon see Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised on their roads. The local transport agency, Færdselsstyrelsen, has granted provisional approval for the software, making Denmark the fourth European nation to greenlight the driver-assist system.
The software allows Tesla vehicles to navigate traffic, change lanes, and handle complex driving manoeuvres under the watchful eye of a human driver. The expansion comes as Tesla ramps up its efforts to establish its advanced driver assistance system across the continent.
Where FSD is available in Europe
Tesla has successfully secured regulatory approvals across Europe by leveraging the frameworks established by the Dutch vehicle authority, RDW. The system is rolling out to customers on a country-by-country basis.
The European nations that have approved FSD Supervised include:
- The Netherlands
- Lithuania
- Estonia
- Denmark
Sales turnaround in Denmark
The arrival of FSD Supervised coincides with a massive commercial rebound for Tesla in the Danish market. The company suffered a brutal 2025, where high interest rates and fierce competition from Chinese brands triggered a drop in registrations across Denmark.
The story in 2026 is completely different. Tesla registered 1,750 vehicles in Denmark this past May, representing a 136 per cent explosion in sales compared to the same month last year.
A large part of this success is due to aggressive 0 per cent interest promotions and highly competitive leasing offers introduced by the automaker. The strategy pushed the Model Y to become the absolute best-selling vehicle of any kind in Denmark for the month of May, with 1,030 registrations, while the Model 3 followed closely behind in fifth place overall with 720 deliveries.
