Tesla Introduces New Coastal Blue Paint for Base Model Y in Europe
Tesla has given European buyers a new way to spec their entry-level crossover, rolling out a fresh paint colour exclusively for the base Model Y. The automaker announced that Coastal Blue is now available on the base Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD).
Built at Gigafactory Berlin, the new metallic shade runs €1,300 across European configurators. Coastal Blue joins the base trim’s existing palette, which already includes the standard Stealth Grey along with Pearl White Multi-Coat and Diamond Black. The colour is reserved specifically for the budget-focused RWD variant, a way to visually set the entry-level car apart from the pricier trims.
How Tesla’s Blue Palette Has Evolved
Coastal Blue is the latest step in Tesla’s shifting approach to exterior colours. For more than eight years, Deep Blue Metallic was the go-to mid-tone blue across the entire lineup, Model Y included. It was a classic finish that stuck around from the early production days through several platform updates.
That changed earlier this year when Tesla retired Deep Blue Metallic in favour of more segmented, trim-specific shades. Rather than offering one blue for everyone, the automaker started using distinct paint options to build a visual hierarchy across price points.

After the original blue was dropped, Tesla brought in Marine Blue and Frost Blue Metallic. Marine Blue arrived as a darker, richly saturated premium finish reserved for the upper trims. The lighter, icy Frost Blue, originally used on the premium Model S and Model X, got handed down to the Performance trims.
Coastal Blue rounds out this new strategy for the European market. Described as a mid-tone metallic that sits right between the darker Marine Blue and lighter regional options like Glacier Blue, it makes sure base-model buyers still get a distinct blue of their own while keeping the wider lineup looking varied.
The new colour looks beautiful. Waiting patiently for this one to hit North America. The exclusive colour pushes people a reason to jump on the entry Model Y.
