Tesla Just Killed Deep Blue Metallic and Replaced It with Two New Colors

Tesla has quietly updated its paint lineup for the Model 3 and Model Y in North America, introducing two new shades while retiring the longtime favorite Deep Blue Metallic. The new options, Marine Blue and Frost Blue, create a clear hierarchy between vehicle trims that hasn’t existed before in the company’s colour catalogue.

Customers opting for the Premium version of either car now have access to Marine Blue, a deeper, richer tone that first debuted in European markets late last year.

For those stepping up to the Performance trim, Tesla has introduced Frost Blue, a lighter and more metallic finish. Notably, Frost Blue is exclusive to the Performance variants of the Model 3 and Model Y, as well as remaining inventory of the Model S Plaid.

Pricing and Availability

The new colours come with distinct price tags that reflect their positioning in the lineup. Marine Blue is typically priced as a $1,000 USD upgrade (approximately $1,350 CAD), while the Performance-exclusive Frost Blue Metallic commands a premium of $2,500 USD ($3,400 CAD).

Canadian buyers previously had limited access to Marine Blue on select configurations, but the addition of Frost Blue marks a significant expansion for the market. By tying specific colours to higher trims, Tesla is moving toward a strategy similar to traditional luxury automakers, using exclusive paint as a status indicator for its top-tier performance models.

Both colours are available to order now on the Tesla configurator. Delivery timelines are expected to stay consistent with current production schedules, though local availability may vary as Tesla transitions its paint shops to the new formulations.
