New data from Ookla shows Starlink significantly improved its satellite internet performance in the second half of 2025. The latest Speedtest analysis reveals that users in every state except Alaska now see median download speeds of 100 Mbps or higher. This is a major jump compared to the end of 2024, when only half as many states reached that mark.

Nebraska recorded the fastest overall performance in the country with a median download speed of 200.80 Mbps. Even in crowded areas like New Jersey, the service saw a massive boost for those on the slower end of the spectrum, with bottom-tier speeds jumping from roughly 11 Mbps to over 77 Mbps.

The number of Starlink users meeting the FCC’s official broadband threshold of 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload has climbed quickly. By the end of 2025, nearly 45% of users met this standard, up from just 17% at the start of the year.

Upload speeds also saw a notable shift. Residents in 22 states can now access median upload speeds of 20 Mbps or higher. In late 2024, no states had reached that level of performance.

Check out the chart below showing the 10 states with the biggest gains in Starlink download speeds:

Latency, or the delay in data transmission, is seeing steady improvement. Starlink’s median latency across the U.S. is now 39 ms. This is a sharp contrast to traditional geostationary satellite providers like Hughesnet and Viasat, which recorded latencies of 674 ms and 750 ms, respectively.

Ten states now have lag times under 40 ms, making the service more viable for real-time tasks like video calls and gaming. At this time last year, only New Jersey had achieved that level of responsiveness.

The gap between Starlink and legacy satellite providers continues to widen. Starlink’s download speeds are now more than 60% faster than Hughesnet and 65% faster than Viasat. The difference in upload speeds is even more pronounced, with Starlink performing 95% better than Viasat in that category.

As SpaceX continues to refine its constellation, the data suggests the service is becoming a more consistent alternative to traditional ground-based internet for many Americans. You can click here to sign up for Starlink and its latest promo offering internet from $29 per month.
