Tesla India officially celebrated the arrival of the new Model Y L this week, hosting launch events across its key Experience Centres under the banner “Building a World of Amazing Abundance.” The company confirmed that the long-wheelbase electric SUV is now available for in-person viewing at its flagship locations in Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram.

Priced at ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Model Y L is a specifically tailored version of Tesla’s best-selling SUV. It features a 150 mm longer wheelbase and a redesigned three-row interior with individual captain seats in the second row, catering to the Indian market’s preference for spacious family vehicles.

The Model Y L comes standard with All-Wheel Drive and delivers a claimed range of 681 km (WLTP). While customers can see the vehicle in stores starting today, April 28, 2026, the first customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in June.

Tesla’s Move Into India

Tesla’s official entry into the Indian market has been a multi-year journey involving significant regulatory negotiations. After the Indian government introduced a new EV policy in early 2024 (which lowered import duties for companies committing to local manufacturing) Tesla ramped up its retail presence.

The company opened its first Experience Centres in mid-2025:

  • Mumbai: Located at Maker Maxity, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

  • New Delhi: Situated at Worldmark 3, Aerocity.

  • Gurugram: An integrated Tesla Center in Sector 48 that handles sales, service, and deliveries.

Beyond vehicles, Tesla is aggressively building out its charging infrastructure in the country. The company has already commissioned its V4 Supercharger stations in Mumbai and Delhi, providing 250 kW peak charging speeds that can add up to 275 km of range in just 15 minutes.

The Building a World of Amazing Abundance theme seen at the event reflects Tesla’s updated global mission statement, which shifted earlier this year to focus on a broader vision of sustainable energy, robotics, and autonomous transport.
