Emirates has successfully completed its first Starlink Wi-Fi installation on an A380 aircraft, representing a significant boost to its onboard internet capabilities. The upgraded double-decker plane returned to Dubai this week following technical work and official certification in the UK.

The new satellite system utilizes three dedicated antennas to provide over 2 Gbps of total aircraft bandwidth. This is a massive leap forward from the airline’s original systems that offered less than 1 Mbps. The new hardware is specifically designed to handle the high passenger capacity of the A380, allowing travelers to stream, game, and work at speeds comparable to a home connection.

Emirates will offer this service for free to all passengers across every cabin class. To speed up the rollout, future installations will move to the airline’s own engineering facilities in Dubai throughout 2026. This A380 now joins 25 Boeing 777-300ERs already using the low-latency tech. The airline also plans to introduce Live TV streaming via Starlink, starting on personal devices before eventually integrating it into seatback screens.

So far, about 650,000 Emirates customers have already used Starlink on equipped flights as part of a larger fleet-wide refurbishment project.
