New Tesla Model Y Zen Grey Interior Replaces White for Giga Shanghai Builds

Tesla has officially expanded the customisation options for the Model Y in Australia and New Zealand, introducing a new interior colour and updated wheel designs for the Premium trim.

The most notable addition is the Zen Grey Interior, a fresh aesthetic option that moves away from the standard black or white choices. This new cabin finish is paired with the debut of 20-inch Helix 2.0 Wheels, which feature a dark finish to complement the more aggressive look of the updated Model Y.

The introduction of the Zen Grey interior brings a more cohesive look to the Model Y cabin by color matching several key components that were previously finished in black on the white interior. The armrests, door grab handles, and the centre console armrest now feature the new grey tone, as do the side console trim pieces and the trim surrounding the wireless charging area. This change creates a seamless, uniform aesthetic throughout the vehicle’s touchpoints and storage surfaces.

The Premium designation in these markets typically refers to the refreshed Model Y. This version of the vehicle includes several hardware improvements over the original release:

  • Upgraded Suspension: Features frequency-dependent damping for a smoother ride.
  • Enhanced Cabin Tech: Includes a new 16-inch ultra-high-definition front touchscreen and a dedicated 8-inch rear screen for passengers.
  • Improved Comfort: First-row seats now include both heating and ventilation as standard.
  • Ambient Lighting: Wraparound lighting that extends throughout the cabin, similar to the updated Model 3.

The introduction of the Zen Grey interior and Helix 2.0 wheels follows the recent launch of the Model Y L in the region, a slightly longer variant that offers captain’s chairs and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities.

This change means Tesla has officially discontinued the white interior option for all Model Y Premium trims produced at Giga Shanghai, replacing it with the new Zen Grey Interior. This shift affects several key markets across the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, and the Philippines. The new Zen Grey finish is the exact same interior colour found on the larger Model Y L, providing a more consistent aesthetic across Tesla’s updated SUV lineup in these territories.

These new options are available to order now via the Tesla online configurator in both Australia and New Zealand, with delivery windows for new orders currently estimated for the second quarter of 2026.

The minor refresh does look pretty slick. Now we wait for these changes to hit up North America.
